Ushin shapes were inspired by common symbols

It helps to think of the shapes as symbols. We are familiar with emojies, especially the heart as a feeling shape. We used the oval as a thought bubble, borrowed from cartoon format. The square as a map, or date in time – an event in the past or happening now. We symbolize potential future actions as an arrow, as for directions, or what follows “next”. We see merit as a star, a common symbol of virtue. We use the triangle as a needs shape, refering to makes sense when we recall Maslow’s triangle of needs:
